In Left 4 Dead 2, can you hear people using a mic if you don’t have your own mic/headphones?

Question by : In Left 4 Dead 2, can you hear people using a mic if you don’t have your own mic/headphones?
I might be getting this game on Christmas, but might not have a mic until a few days later. Will I be able to hear what others are saying without using my own? And can I type/text chat with them on the game before I get the headset?

And I also want to know how much swearing is in the game. Not the people online, but the characters themselves. I know they say the S, A, and B words, but I would assume the screaming zombies and gunfire would make it kinda hard to hear, unless it’s like a cut-scene type thing in the beginning of a level. On a level of 1 to 10 how bad is it compared to most movies and such? From what I’ve seen it has the same amount as the movie Cloverfield or Hancock, does anybody who’s watched these movies agree?
And I have money to buy a headset, but I wont be able to make it to a store until at least the 27th.

Answer by Michael
Not easily, and no you can’t text/chat with them. Grow up, get a job, get a life, and buy a mic. It’s 20 freaking dollars.

Nibipedia:
nibipedia.com/

I can’t believe I never blogged Nibipedia before! I was sure I had,
but can’t find it in any of my blogs. This surprises me in part
because Nibipedia is one of those sites I often bring up in
conversation as an example of an exceptionally sound Good Idea.

Nibipedia’s great idea is fairly simply, at a root level. There is a
lot of great educational content in YouTube. There is a lot of totally
uncool content in YouTube. Because of the latter, YouTube is often
blocked in schools, making it impossible to access the former, which
is a real shame. So (I hypothesize) someone thought why not get the
good stuff where teachers and students can get at it safely, without
the oh-so-distracting other stuff? Better yet, let’s mash it up with
some other online content (like, maybe, Wikipedia?) to make a combined
multi-sensory learning environment? And thus it started, recruiting
teachers and librarians and other curators of quality to select the
Best Stuff.

See? I told you it was a Good Idea! Little by little they added more
perks. Not just YouTube, but also TED talks and other excellent
sources of high quality educational videos. The source for mashed up
text is usually Wikipedia, and I am still waiting for an alternative
source to auto-mash with health videos, since, as much as I adore
Wikipedia, I won’t go there for health info. Just way too risky!
Nibipedia added more functions also! Social networking features,
forums, comments, discussions … a full immersive learning
environment. Very impressive.

They make it easy to find them, too. They are all over Twitter. @TroyAPeterson and his
partner in coding Terry
Schubring
have been quite active in Twitter since early on. They
have created several accounts for those who wish to follow specific
topics in Nibipedia. They did a smart thing by posting not just their
own content, but retweeting appropriate subject content from other
streams and from the web. Just a word to the wise, don’t follow too
many of the Nibipedia accounts, since for certain pieces of info, they
retweet themselves ad nauseum.

Here are a few of the other topic-specific Twitter accounts associated
with Nibipedia. These vary dramatically in quality and consistency, so
please check out the topics that interest you first. Of course, do the
same with the video collections that interest you, since they reflect
the personal opinions and preferences of the curator, which may not
align with what you want or what you want your students to know.

Back in the spring of this year (2009), I decided to pay a visit to Washington Square Park (pictures of which are available here), having earlier stumbled upon some photos I had taken there 40 years earlier, in the spring of 1969 (photos of which are included in this album). I was surprised to see that the park was undergoing massive renovation, and that the fountain was closed off; but some construction signs promised that it would be open once again in the summer …

So this past weekend, I decided to venture back to the park once again. The renovation was indeed finished; the fountain was operating again, and the warm, sunny weather had attracted throngs of New Yorkers and tourists to spend a pleasant afternoon engaged in all sorts of activities — much of which involved splashing around in the water. But there was also juggling and chess and scrabble, guitar-playing folk-singers and a violinist, two different jazz bands, and an energetic quartet singing old 1950s doo-wop ballads.

I spotted tourists and visitors from Japan, Italy, Scandinavia, and various parts of the U.S. People were sunbathing on various patches of grass around the edge of the park. There were children, students, lovers, families, and old hippies; and there were half a dozen dogs, at least a few of which enjoyed the opportunity to splash in the pool. There was an ice-cream cart and a hot dog stand, and if the park was anything like the old days, there probably at least a few places to buy drugs of every conceivable kind. For those who might have wondered what this place really was like in the "old days," there was a cheerful old guy (named Robert Fogelnest, from what I could find on the Internet) peddling copies of a book titled The Streets of Greenwich Village.

All in all, there was something for just about everyone. If you’ve got an afternoon free while it’s still summer here in New York City, I highly recommend a stroll through Washington Square Park. Remember: summer won’t last forever…

Dropkick Murphys – Kiss Me, I’m Shitfaced

Lyrics: I play in a band, we’re the best in the land We’re big in both Chelsea and France I play one mean guitar and then score at the bar There’s a line of chicks waiting for their chance So come on now honey, I’ll make you feel pretty These other gals mean nothing to me Let’s finish these drinks and be gone for the night ‘Cause I’m more than a handful, you’ll see [Chorus:] So kiss me, I’m shitfaced I’m soaked, I’m soiled and brown in the trousers, she kissed me And I only bought her one round I can bench press a car, I’m an ex football star with degrees from both Harvard and Yale Girls just can’t keep up, I’m a real love machine I’ve had far better sex while in jail I’ve designed the Sears Tower, I make two grand an hour I cook the world’s best duck flambe I’ll take the pick of the litter, girls jockey for me I don’t need these lines to get laid [Chorus] I’m a man of the night, a real ladies delight See my figure was chiseled from stone One more for the gal then I’ll escort her home Come last call, I’m never alone I’ve a house on the hill with a red water bed That puts Hugh Heffnor’s mansion to shame With girls by the pool and Italian sports cars I’m just here in this dump for the game [Chorus x2] Ahh, fuck it. Who am I shitting? I’m a pitiful sight, and I ain’t all that bright I’m definitely not chiseled from stone I’m a cheat and a liar, no woman’s desire I’ll probably die cold and alone But just give me a chance, ’cause deep down inside I swear I got a big heart of
